William Shiels was born in 1930 and was the third child born to James Shiels and Min Coe. He was a ninth generation descendant of Micheal Shiels.

G9: William George Shiels 1930-2019 & Veronica Gassoff
William George Shiels was born May 30 1930 at Cranbrook, BC. He was the third child of James and Min (Coe) Shiels. He moved to Marysville with his parents where they lived until 1944. The family moved to Cranbrook and then to Creston, BC in 1945. The next move was to Keremeos in the spring of 1946 and they moved to Quesnel in the fall of 1947.
William married Veronica Gassoff in Barkersville, BC on July 3, 1949. He worked for two years at the Department of Highways and one year for his father. At this time he became employed with Weldwood of Canada at Quesnel.
William was originally employed by Weldwood at their Quesnel operation about 1951. It was also around this time that Bill and Vera operated a trailer park, just south of Quesnel for almost a year. About this time, their oldest son, Gordon, was in a car accident. The doctors said he would never recover. He was in a coma for three weeks but made a miraculous recovery.
After 16 years, William was transferred to the Williams Lake Weldwood operation in 1977 and worked there until his retirement on December 15, 1989. During this period he was sent by the Company to Japan on a business trip. After his retirement from Weldwood, William ran his own consulting business from 1989 to 1999. He travelled extensively throughout the US, as far south as Brazil and to Japan. He used years of experience and the wisdom and common sense he was blessed by God with, to trouble shoot, open up markets and recommend improvements.
In the last 20 years of his life, Bill & Vera spent a good deal of the time simply enjoying the family.
Anyone who knew Bill knew that following the Lord shaped his life. He became a Christian (along with his wife) at a Billy Graham crusade in Quesnel in 1955. He was baptized in 1957. He was active in the Evangelical Free Church both in Quesnel and in Williams Lake. He will be remembered for being a straight-forward and wise person. Many people were blessed by the hospitality offered through their home.
Bill and his wife made one last unexpected move in July of 2016 to Swift Current, SK. They were forced out of Williams Lake by wildfires, but were quickly convinced to stay because of the support and help received from within the healthcare system here. Bill was deeply thankful for the healthcare he received. His family in Saskatchewan counted it a privilege to have father and mother with them and to support and love them both in every way that they could.
William and Vera had seven children: Sharon, Gordon, Ronald, Teresa, Joy, Ruth and Elizabeth.

Sharon Rose Shiels was born November 20, 1949 in Quesnel, British Columbia. She was the first child of William & Vera (Gassoff) Shiels.
She married Bruce McLeod on July 25, 1993 and they lived in Langley, BC. Although we do not have a death date, we know tat Bruce had passed away before his father in-law passed away in 2019.

Gordon William Shiels was born May 22, 1951 in Quesnel, British Columbia. He was the second child of William & Vera (Gassoff) Shiels.

He married Ann Louise Tanis on June 23, 1978 in Quesnel, British Columbia.

Ronald James Shiels was born December 16, 1952 in Quesnel, British Columbia. He was the third child of William & Vera (Gassoff) Shiels.
He married Sharon Klassen on April 7, 1979. They have four children; Michelle 1980; Donna-Lynn 1982; Kimberly 1984 and James 1986. Ron and Sharon also have a foster son named Daniel 1988.
Ron attended Providence University College and Theological Seminary near Otterburne, Manitoba and went on to become the Pastor of Maranatha Community Church, an independent Evangelical Church in Winkler, Manitoba.
