G7: John Shiels 1864-1946 & Christine Bryden
John was born January 21, 1864. He was the fifth child of William & Agnes (Brown) Shiels.
He married Christine Bryden on March 19, 1886, in Culter, Lanarkshire, Scotland. They had three children in Scotland: William born in 1886, Nellie, born in 1888, and George born in 1890. George died when he was only 5 years old in Scotland. John ran a dairy farm while he lived in Scotland.
John and Christine’s son William emigrated to Canada in 1902 at the age of 16. Two years later John, Christine and Nellie also emigrated to Canada and gained access to a homestead north of Kisbey, Sask in March 1904. The farm was 18 miles from Kisbey in the Moose Mountains.
John was a very interesting man. He like poetry and enjoyed reading. He also liked to play ball in his cow pasture in their leisure time. When John and Christine retired from farming, they moved to a small house in Kisbey behind their daughter’s house. They lived there for the rest of their lives.
Christine died on Feb 12, 1941 at the age of 80, John died in 1946 at the age of 82. both being buried at Kisbey, Saskatchewan.
G8: William Shiels 1886-1951 & Janet Pollock
William Shiels was born on May 11, 1886, in Biggar, Lanarkshire, Scotland and was the first child of John and Christine (Bryden) Shiels.
John ran a dairy farm while he lived in Scotland. William helped his dad deliver milk and while at that task, he met his mate for life, Janet Pollock. William emigrated to Canada in 1902 at the age of 16.
He got work on a farm near Arcola, Saskatchewan as a farm hand. Two years later John, Christine and Nellie also emigrated to Canada and John started a homestead north of Kisbey, Saskatchewan. The farm was 18 miles from Kisbey in the Moose Mountains.
Although William was not married, he continued to work where he could and did not move home with his parents. William continued to correspond with his sweetheart in Scotland and Janet came to Canada in 1911. Janet’s brother, Alex Pollock lived in Winnipeg and William went to Winnipeg to meet her.
William and Janet were married on July 21, 1911, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. William and Janet moved to a farm that William had bought 3 miles from his parents. They started living in a log house and then Janet’s brother, Alex Pollock, came up and built a new house for them. William and Janet had two daughters, Kathleen 1912 and Christene 1914.
William and Janet farmed near Kisbey until the great depression and then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1926. Janet’s brother Alex owned an apartment block and asked William and Janet to run it for him.
William died Aug 28, 1951 while visiting his sister Nellie in Kisbey. Janet died in Jan 3, 1971 and was also buried in Kisbey.
G9: Kathleen Shiels 1912-1998 & Clair Zryd
Kathleen Shiels was born November 30, 1912 in Kisbey, Saskatchewan. She was the first child of William and Janet (Pollock) Shiels.
Kathleen married Clair Zryd in Winnipeg, Manitoba and stayed there for about a year prior to moving to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Clair was a travelling salesman and worked for Congdon Marsh Wholesale selling boots and shoes.
Kathleen & Clair had three children, John 1939; Patricia 1941 & Barbara 1947.
Clair died in 1991 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 82. Kathleen died on August 19, 1998, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 85.
G10: John William Zryd 1939 & Peggy Powers
John William Zryd was born on July 19, 1939 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was the first child of Clair & Kathleen (Shiels) Zryd.
He married Annette Helen (Peggy) Powers on November 24, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
John operates his own business refinishing furniture in Alberta. John & Peggy had three children, David 1956; Micheal 1963 and Robert William 1965.
David was born in 1956. He married Nancy Wilmot from Manitoba and they have two children, Jonah born in 1992 and Annie born in 1995. David & Nancy live in Port Albernie, BC. Micheal was born in 1963. He is not married and is a University Professor in Ontario. Robert William was born in 1965. He married Sally Jean Cowan and they have two children, William & Adrian. They live in British Columbia.G10: Patricia Anne Zryd 1941 & Matthew Collins
Patricia Anne Zryd was born October 5, 1941 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She was the second child of Clair & Kathleen (Shiels) Zryd.
She married Matthew Collins and they live in Edmonton. Pat is now retired and Matthew works for the Provincial Government.
They had four children, Donald; Mathew; William and John.
G10: Barbara Kathleen Zryd 1947 & David Wright
Barbara Kathleen Zryd was born August 22, 1947 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She was the third child of Clair & Kathleen (Shiels) Zryd.
She married David Wright and they live in Regina, Saskatchewan. Barb is a school teacher and David is an Engineer. They have three children, Christine Barbara Kathleen; Richard David Claire and Andrew Donald John.
G9: Christine Shiels 1914-2010 & Reg Cox
Christine Shiels was born May 7, 1914. She was the second child of William and Janet (Pollock) Shiels. Christine moved from Kisbey, Saskatchewan to Winnipeg with her parents during the depression. When she graduated from school, she found work as a stenographer with McColl Frotenac Oil.
Christine married Reg Cox on May 29, 1937.
Reg started working with CP Telecommunications when he was 13 years old as a telegraph boy. He was a self educated man and attended night school to complete his education. Reg was stationed in Winnipeg when they were married and moved to Saskatoon in 1956. They stayed there for 13 years and moved to Regina for a promotion in 1969. Three years later, they moved to Winnipeg where they retired.
Christine & Reg settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had six children, Geraldine Bryden 1939; Janet 1941; Maureen 1942; Graham 1950; William 1951 & Gregory 1956.
Reg died in April 1995 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 85. Christine died on April 23, 2010, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 95.
G10: Geraldine Bryden Cox 1939 & Gary Tipping
Geraldine Bryden Cox was born August 13, 1939 in Winnipeg. She was the first child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox.
She married Gary Tipping on May 20, 1972 and they live in Gold River, BC where Gary is a dentist and Geraldine was a school teacher.
Geraldine & Gary have two children, Christine Nicolle born August 7, 1976 and Lindsay Dawn born January 5, 1978.

Janet Eleanor Cox was born May 12, 1941. She was the second child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox.
She married Larry Clark and they live on a farm near Ft Erie, Ontario.
Larry is self employed. Janet & Larry have 5 children, Cathy 1966; Sharon 1967; Daniel 1969; Jennifer 1970 & Maureen 1974.

G10: Maureen Louise Cox 1942-1967 & Glen Hanna
Maureen Louise Cox was born August 9, 1942. She was the third child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox. She married Glen Hanna and they lived in Edmonton, Alberta.
Maureen & Glenn had two children, Barbara Louise Hanna born Oct 22, 1963 and Jeffery Glen Hanna born Sept 5, 1967.
Maureen died as a young mother on September 29, 1967, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 25. Glen has remarried and moved to Calgary to work for Imperial Oil.
G11: Barbara Louise Hanna 1963 & Wayne Fras Barbara Louise was born October 22, 1963. She was the first child of Maureen Cox & Glenn Hanna. She married Wayne Fras and they live in Calgary. They have two children, Katrina Maria born May 2, 1997 and Carter Reed born May 5, 1999. G11: Jeffery Glen Hanna 1967 Jeffery Glen was born September 5, 1967. He was the first child of Maureen Cox & Glenn Hanna.
G10: Graham Reginald Cox 1950 & Maxine Barbara Joyner
Graham Reginald Cox was born January 1, 1950. He was the fourth child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox.
He married Maxine Barbara Joyner on October 12, 1980, in Duncan, British Columbia. They live in Winnipeg. Graham is a Captain in inland water and plans to operate a Hovercraft on Lake Winnipeg in the summer of 2001. Graham & Maxine had 4 children, Angela Bryden born Mar 3, 1981; William Andrew born November 3, 1982; Gina Louise born January 9, 1985 and Miranda Lien was born October 28, 1987.
G10: William James Cox 1951-1974
William James Cox was born January 14, 1951. He was the fifth child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox. He died on October 7, 1974 in a car accident on his way to Regina for work when he was only 23 years of age.
G10: Gregory Alexander Cox 1956
Gregory Alexander Cox was born November 25, 1956 He was the sixth child of Reg & Christine (Shiels) Cox.
Greg lives in North Hampton, NB and works at Jolly Farmer, a very large greenhouse operation.
G8: Helen Paterson Shiels 1888-1973 & Harry Walker
Helen Paterson Shiels was born near Edinburgh, Scotland on Jan 31, 1888. She was the second child of John and Christine (Bryden) Shiels. Helen was called Nellie by her family and came to Canada in 1903. After completing her education, she was employed as a secretary at R.H. Cook Insurance in Arcola.
She married Harry Walker in 1912 and they lived on a farm near Kisbey until 1927 when they moved to the town of Kisbey. They bought the old Methodist church on Coteau Street and converted it to a house.
Harry was lineman for the North Kisbey Rural Telephone Co., and would sometimes walk from Kisbey to the end of the line looking for the trouble. He is well remembered for entertaining both the young and old with his magic tricks. He owned one of the first public address systems which was used at sports days and hockey games; he was always willing to play music for the skaters. Harry was employed by Greenwoods’ Garage and the Gordon Brothers’ Garage.
They had two children, Helen Irene Walker born June 30, 1914 and Bernard Victor Walker born Oct 25, 1919.
Harry died on March 10, 1966, in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of 81. Helen died on August 8, 1973, in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 85. They are buried in Percy cemetery.
G9: Helen Irene Walker 1914 & Tom Partridge
Helen Walker was born June 30, 1914. Helen was the first child of Harry & Helen (Shiels) Walker.
On January 2, 1943, Helen married Thomas Benjamin Partridge. They had no children.
Tom was interested in storekeeping from an early age and worked for H. L. Whicher for several years as delivery boy and general clerk. He became manager of the Moose Mountain Hardware store about 1937. When the store was sold in 1940, Tom was transferred to Port Arthur, Ont, where he was employed by Marshall Wells. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942. He was posted to HMCS Naden at Esquimalt in Victoria and spent the rest of the war years there. Tom & Helen resided in Regina, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg and Vancouver during Tom’s career. Tom and Helen retired and moved to Victoria, BC.
Tom died on Jan 20, 2004 in Victoria, BC.
G9: Vic Walker 1919-2010 & Belva Barker
Bernard Victor Walker was born in the Hazel Bank district on Oct 25, 1919. He was the second child of Harry & Helen (Shiels) Walker.
Vic moved to Kisbey with his family in 1927 and took his schooling there. Vic spent four and a half years in the RCAF during World War II, and returned to Canada in 1945.
Vic married Belva Barker, daughter of Wilbur & Mabel Barker in Kisbey.
They resided in Kisbey until they moved to Red Deer, Alberta in 1953. Vic rejoined the RCAF in 1956 and was stationed in Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta before being posted to Germany in 1959. They returned to Camp Borden in 1963 and lived at Alliston, Ontario, a small town about 10 miles from camp. (Alliston is now famous for the Honda plant.)
Vic retired from the RCAF in 1969 and taught school in Alliston from 1970 until 1984. He retired to Victoria, BC and spent most of the time travelling and curling.
Vic & Belva have three children, Laurel Ellen 1950; Kimball Dee 1952 and Harry Francis 1957.
Vic died on April 20, 2010, in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 90. Belva died on December 2, 2012, in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 90.
