Agnes Shiels was born in 1878 and was the youngest child of William James Shiels and Agnes Brown. She was a seventh generation descendant of Micheal Shiels.

Agnes McBride was born on December 6, 1903, in Preston Pans, East Lothian, Scotland. She was the third child of Agnes Brown Shiels & Thomas McBride.
She moved with her parents to America in 1910. While crossing the Atlantic Ocean, she saw Hailey’s Comet. The family travelled across the USA by train and stagecoach. They settled in Bearcreek, Montana where her father worked in the coal mines.
Agnes married Emil Anderson on Jan 27, 1922 in Red Lodge, Montana. They had three children, Elmer; Melvin and Doris.
Emil was killed in the Smith Mine disaster of 1943. The Smith Mine is near Bearcreek, Carbon, Montana, not far from Red Lodge, and it’s the site of the deadliest coal mine explosion and fire in Montana history. At 9:37 on a Saturday morning, February 27, 1943, there was an explosion of methane gas in the mine.
Later that same year, her son Melvin was killed in an auto accident. Agnes and her daughter Doris moved to Red Lodge where Agnes started her first paid job in a drug store.
Agnes married Elo E. Waisanen on Aug 10, 1946 in Carbon County, Red Lodge, Montana. Agnes & Elo had one daughter Kaye Lynn Waisanen born Oct 27, 1948.
The family lived in Mouat where Agnes was the cook for the mining company. When the family returned to Red Lodge, Agnes cooked at the Carbon County Memorial Hospital, retiring at age 75! After retiring, she cooked for the Red Lodge Senior Citizen Center. The Festival of Nations counted on Agnes for authentic ethnic baked goods for over 40 years.
Agnes died on April 15, 1999, in Joliet, Montana, USA, at the age of 95.
Elmer Emil Anderson was born on August 17, 1923, in Bearcreek, Montana, USA. He was the first child of Agnes McBride & Emil Anderson.
He married Jacqueline Margaret Ann Barth on Oct 24, 1942 and they had two children together, Sandra Irene Anderson born Mar 2, 1945 in Red Lodge, Montana and Robert Anderson.
This marriage ended in divorce and the children were adopted by their stepfather and their last name was changed to Cummins. Elmer married Peggy and they had four children, Scott, Gaye, Todd and Bruce. He later married Betty J. Carroll and they made their home in Port Townsend, WA.
Elmer was a land surveyor. He died on September 12, 1985, in Jefferson, Washington, USA, at the age of 62.
Kaye Lynn Waisanen was born on October 27, 1948, in Billings, Montana, USA. She was the only child of Agnes McBride & Elo E. Waisanen.
She married William David Palmer on August 12, 1972, in Carbon, Montana, USA. They had one child Carrie Palmer Hall on May 17 1977.
William passed away on September 12, 2017, at the age of 67. They had been married 45 years.
Kathy Sue McBride was born on March 2, 1944, in Great Falls, Montana, USA. She was the first child of William Robert McBride & Katherine Paetzel.
She married Clinton Carlyle Chamberlin on June 19, 1971, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. They had one child during their marriage, Kathleen Mary Chamberlin born on March 15, 1971.
Kathy died on July 29, 2001, in Little Falls, Minnesota, USA, at the age of 57.

In the 1901 census, Thomas was a Coal Miner and they were living in East Lothian, Scotland.
Their first child, John Samuel McBride was born in 1901 in Mulrkirk, Airshire. They emigrated to the United States of America and arrived on the Parisian ship in Boston on Sept 25, 1910.
In the 1920 US Census, Thomas is listed as a coal miner.
They lived in the Red Lodge and Bearcreek area since 1910 except for a period of time in Great Falls, Montana.
According to her sister Barbara’s will in November 1929, she was living at number 1391, Great Falls Montana and her husband Thomas was living at that time.
Thomas died in 1935 near Great Falls Montana, Cascade MT. Agnes McBride died in 1958.

She married Jay D Spaulding on June 25, 1949, in Helena, Montana, USA when she was 19 years old. They had four children during their marriage, Lynda Marie Spaulding born January 30, 1950; Katherine Diane Spaulding 1951; Jay Martin (Marty) Spaulding 1952 and Carol Ray Spaulding born July 2, 1954. Jay had served two terms as mayor of Joliet and operated a gasoline bulk-plant dealership for many years. He was also a veteran of World War 2. Thomas McBride was born Jan 31, 1906 in Preston Pan, Scotland. He was the fourth child of Agnes Brown Shiels & Thomas McBride. He moved with his parents to America settling in Bear Creek, Montana in October 1910. In 1926, the family moved to Great Falls. For 13 years, Thomas was employed by the Great Northern Railroad in Havre. When World War 2 started, he served with a US Army battalion in Iran that built railroad lines. He returned to Havre after the war. On Oct 2, 1951 he married Kathleen Shaw in Havre. The couple moved to Ronan in 1971. They never had any children.
