G4: Robert Shiels (1769-1840) & Annie Dickson
Robert Shiels was born Jan 16, 1769 in Skirling, Peebles, Scotland. He was the 1st child of James Shiels and Janet Younger.
Skirling is a parish, community council area and village in Peeblesshire in the Scottish Borders situated 2.5 miles east of Biggar in Lanarkshire.
Robert married Annie Dickson on 9 Jul, 1790 in Drumelzier, Peebles, Scotland when he was 21 years old. Annie was born in Sept 1768 in Kilbucho, about 5 miles southeast of Biggar.
Robert was a farmer. Robert & Annie lived their entire life in this area.
Robert Shiels died in 1845 in Culter, Lanarkshire and his wife Annie passed away in 1840, also in Culter.

G5: Alison Shiels 1791-1833 & Robert Wallace
Alison Shiels was born Jun 3, 1791 in Drumelzier, Peebles, Scotland. She was the 1st child of Robert Shiels and Annie Dickson.
Alison grew up in the Peebles area. Her father, Robert Shiels, was a farmer. Alison had three brothers, Thomas, Robert & George and had 3 sisters, Isabella, Jane & Helen.
Alison married Robert Wallace on Apr 14, 1815 in Peebles. Robert was born Apr 12, 1789 in Peebles. Together, they raised 5 children, all daughters.
Their first child, Isabel, was born Jun 17, 1821 in Cockpen, Midlothian. A second daughter, Helen was born Sept 7, 1823 in Newton, Edinburgh, Midlothian. Their third child, Elizabeth was born Sept 25, 1825 again in Newton. Their last two daughters, Jane in 1830 and Alison in 1832 were born in Liberton, Midlothian.
Robert was an agricultural labourer his whole life. The family moved around starting in Peebles, Peebleshire; then Cockpen; Newton; Libberton; Lasswade and Glencorse, all in Midlothian. These locations are all within an hour of each other.
Alison Shiels Wallace died on Dec 24, 1833 in Berwichsire, Scotland. Robert lived to be 101 and died Jul 21, 1890.
G5: Thomas Shiels 1795 & Barbara Jean Cranston
Thomas Shiels was christened on Sept 27, 1795 at Traquair, Peebleshire. He was the 2nd child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson.
He married Barbara Jean Cranston on Apr 5, 1817 in Peebles and they had 8 children.
Most of the descendants in this Shiels tree come from this couple.

G5: Isabella Shiels 1798-1867 & Thomas Goodburn
Isabella Shiels was born May 15, 1798 in Stobo, Peebles, Lanarkshire. The record below shows that she was christened 5 days later. She was the 3rd child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson.
Isabella married Thomas Goodburn on May 30, 1824 in Peebles. Thomas was born Jan 25, 1801 in Kendal, Westmorland, England. They had one child, David Stevenson Goodburn born Sept 29, 1822 in Peebles.
In the 1841 census, Thomas was shown as an Agricultural Labourer. Thomas Goodburn died Dec 6, 1843 at aged 43 years.
In the 1851 and 1861 census, it shows Isabella operating a Lodging House. Isabella died in 1867 in Bothwick, Midlothian, Scotland, at the age of 69.
G5: Jane Dickson Shiels 1801-1876 & Ebenezer Grosset
Jane Dickson Shiels was born in 1801 in Libberton, Midlothian. She was the 4th child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson.
She married Ebenezer Grosset on Dec 26, 1828. They raised 9 children. The 1841 & 1851 Scotland census shows Jane born in Liberton, Midlothian, just outside Edinburgh while the 1861 census lists her birthplace as Eddlestone, Peebleshire where her sister & brother were born.

Robert Shiels was born on Sept 28, 1802 in Broughton, Peebles. He was baptized on Oct 3, 1802. He was the 5th child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson.
Robert married Margaret Purdie on Jun 5, 1825 in Kirkurd, Peebles. Margaret was born in 1799 in Peebles and was baptized on Jun 16, 1799.
Robert & Margaret had 2 children, a son James Shiels born Oct 13, 1825 in Eddlestone, Peebles and a daughter Ann Shiels born Apr 18, 1833 in Liberton, Midlothian.
Margaret passed away on Jan 3, 1885 in Lanark. Currently, we have no other info on the rest of this family.

Helen Shiels was born Aug 7, 1804 and was christened Aug 28, 1804 in Eddleston, Peebleshire. She was the 6th child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson.
Helen never married and died in 1837.

George Shiels was born Aug 9, 1810 and was christened Aug 19, 1810 in Peebles, Peebleshire.
He was the 7th & youngest child of Robert Shiels & Annie Dickson. He married Mary White on Jun 5, 1840. They had 8 children.
