George Shiels (6th Gen) 1846-1893 & Mary Skellie

George Shiels was born in 1846 at Canongate, Midlothian, Scotland. He was the 4^th child of George Shiels and Mary White.

In the 1861 census, George was 15, living at home and was listed as an Ag Lab.

He married Mary Skellie on Dec 31, 1872, at St Thomas Manse, South Leith. They had 6 children, Mary 1873, Margaret 1875, James 1880, David 1882. Annie 1884 and Jane 1888.

In the 1891 census, the family lived at 8 Back of the Vaults, Leith South. Margaret had moved out on her own. George was listed as a Dock Laborer.

Their daughter Jane died in 1891 when she was only 3 years old. Their daughter May also died on Oct 22, 1892 when she was only 19.

George died 9 months later when he was only 47 on Jun 18, 1893, at Leith Hospital, Leith, Midlothian. His youngest child was only 9 years old, and Mary Skellie died Sep 8, 1907, General Hospital, Leith.

Margaret died suddenly in 1904 in Edinburgh Midlothian, Scotland when she was only 29 years. Their son was only 8 years old at the time.

James Shiels (1880-1948)

David Shiels (1882) & Margaret Ann Wolfe

David Shiels was born on Mar 23, 1882 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. He was the 4^th child of George Shiels & Mary Skellie.

On Oct 29, 1917, David married Margaret Ann Wolfe in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. They had a son Walter Shiels on Nov 27, 1918. Unfortunately, we have no other info available.

Annie Shiels (1884-1979) & Alexander Thomson Jamieson

Annie Shiels was born May 14, 1884 in Leith, Midlothian. She was the 5^th child of George Shiels & Mary Skellie.

She married Alexander Thomson Jamieson in 1909 in Leith. They had 7 children, Alexander Porteous 1910, Mary 1911, John Thomson 1913, Walter 1916, Katie 1919, Alexander 1922 and Annie 1927.

This family suffered losses when their young son Alexander Porteous Jamieson died on Jan 23, 19122 when he was less than 2 years old. Their daughter Katie also died in 1921 when she was less than 2 years old.

Annie’s husband Alexander died in 1942 when their youngest child was 15 years old. Annie died on Nov 5, 1979 in Morningside, Midlothian, Scotland.

Jane Shiels (1888-1891)
