Overview
The Teetaert family has a very interesting history. My name is Dan Shiels and my mother-in-Law was a Teetaert. When my wife Judy Vandaele & I were married, she made the following statement
“If you are not related to the Teetaerts in Deloraine, you are Nobody!”
Judy & I have been researching family history for many years and have researched both sides of our families back to the 1600’s.
The Teetaert family originated in Belgium and this document starts in Belgium in 1602. Judy & I travelled to Belgium in 2008 and that trip really helped to solidify our findings.
Modern research tools have made it much easier to fill in some of the missing blanks. The Deloraine & Brenda history books published in 1980 & 2000 have also helped to finish the project.
Records are included back to 1602 however our details start about 1850 with two brothers, Laurent & August. The majority of their descendants went to Canada and settled around Deloraine, Manitoba.
We have completed this project for current and future generations and would invite any and all readers to submit updates to make this the best it can be. I would love to update any photos you may have as well.

Introduction:
In this document, we separate the various lines by Generations with Michiel as the first Generation and shown as G1: Michiel Teetaert 1602-1672 & Elisabeth Pollet. His children will be the second generation shown as G2, his grandchildren will be the third generation and will be shown as G3: etc
We also split the history from the mid 1800’s into two sections to focus on the two brothers, Laurent & August.
The research starts in Belgium and many of Michiel’s descendants remained in Belgium, however many of them also came to Canada. The early generations are shown as follows:

Karel Joseph Teetaert & Anna Willem had 7 children, Stephania, Laurent, Bruno, Leonia, Julia, Francisca and August.
Descendants of the oldest son, Laurent, & the youngest son, August, immigrated to Canada and settled in the Deloraine, Manitoba area. The following is a breakdown on the ones that went from Belgium in search of a new life in Canada.

G1: Michiel Teetaert 1602-1672 & Elisabeth Pollet
Michiel Teetaert was born in 1602 in Torhout, Belgium.
Torhout is a city located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. It is about 100 km (60 miles) west of Brussels and about 25 km south of the city of Bruges. As the history shows, the Teetaert family remained close to Torhout throughout the years. The other location we find throughout the history is Zedelgem which is a municipality just north of Torhout.
Michiel married Elisabeth Pollet on Aug 6, 1632 in Torhout. Elisabeth was born in 1600 in Quesnoy-Sur-Deaule, France, which is about 60 km south of Torhout, Belgium. She was the daughter of Francisus Pollet & Margaretha Antoinette Tannette Rohaer.
Michiel & Elisabeth lived in the Torhout area their entire life. They had six children.
G2: Joannes Teetaert was born Jun 19, 1633. He was the 1st child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet.
G2: Judocus Teetaert was born Feb 22, 1636. He was the 2nd child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet. He married Judoca Ampe in 1665 and had 7 children. His line is followed in detail below under G2: Judocus Teetaert 1636-1690 & Judoca Ampe
G2: Anna Teetaert was born Sept 15, 1638. She was the 3rd child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet.
G2: Marinus Teetaert was born Feb 5, 1640. He was the 4th child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet. He married Josijnken Haesaert on Apr 29, 1663 in Eernegem, West Flanders. They had 2 children, Maria (1664-1738) & Godelieva (1675-1747). Marinus died in 1696 in Gistel, about 15 km northwest of Torhout. He was only 56 years old.
G2: Catharina Teetaert was born Nov 30, 1642. She was the 5th child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet.
G2: Joanna Teetaert was born Aug 31, 1645. He was the 6th child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet.
Michiel passed away Feb 20, 1672 in Torhout at the age of 70. Elisabeth passed away Oct 30, 1661 at the age of 61.
G2: Judocus Teetaert 1636-1690 & Judoca Ampe
Judocus Teetaert was born Feb 22, 1636 in Torhout. He was the 2nd child of Michiel Teetaert & Elisabeth Pollet.
Judocus married Judoca Ampe on Nov 18, 1665 in Aartrijke, Zedelgem when he was 29 years old. Judoca was born Aug 3, 1636 in Kortemark, Belgium. Kortemark is about 6km southwest of Torhout. She was the daughter of Marinus Ampe & Jacoba Decaesstecker.
They had 7 children.
G3: Petrus (Pieter) Teetaert was born Mar 21, 1667 in Torhout. He was the 1st child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe. He married Jacoba Denijs on Jan 9, 1692 and they had 6 children:
G4: Daughter: Godeliva born Mar 7, 1693. She married Michiel Casteleyn in 1713 and had 9 children. She died Jun 27, 1748 when she was only 55.
G4: Daughter: Anna born Jan 27, 1697. She married Joannes Cailleauw in 1717 and had 8 children. She passed away Sept 24, 1762 when she was 65.
G4: Son: Petrus born Jun 9, 1700. He married Magdalena Willems on Jan 1, 1723 and had 3 children, a son Hieronymus on Oct 3, 1723 and a daughter Agatha on Oct 25, 1725. His wife died in 1727 and he was married for the second time to Petronella Cordie on Aug 12, 1727. They had 2 sons, Joannes on Jun 10, 1728 & Thomas on Mar 29, 1730. Petrus died May 12, 1742 at the age of 41.
G4: Son: Stephanus born Dec 25, 1702. He married Monica Van Dijcke on Feb 8, 1724. They had 3 children, Jacobus 1724-1724, Joannes 1726-1747 & Petronilla 1730-1747. Monica died 2 weeks after their youngest was born.
Stephanus was married for a second time on Feb 4, 1731 to Cecilia Pieters. They had 8 children, Josephus 1732-1747, Adrianus 1734, Godeliva 1734-1784, Theodorus 1740-1747, Maria 1744-1747, Petrus 1747, Ferdinandus 1749-1818 & Agatha 1754-1761. Stephanus died Apr 2, 1768 when he was 65. It is interesting to note the number of his children that died at a young age. All of his descendants remained in Belgium.
G4: Daughter Veronica Martina born May 27, 1705. She married Jacobus Meulemeester in 1725. They had 4 children, Jacoba 1727-1788, Stephanus 1733-1790, Joannes 1739-1795 & Petrus 1742-1805. Veronica died Jan 5, 1783 when she was 77 years old.
G4: Son: Bernardus born Jul 16, 1708. He married Maria Anna Kint on Apr 27, 1736. They had 6 daughters, Joanna 1738-1785, Isabella 1743-1773, Anna 1746-1794, Regina 1749-1822, Francisca 1752-1769 and Adriana 1753-1822. Bernardus died Oct 28, 1794 when he was 86.
Pieter died May 12, 1742 at the age of 75 and his wife Jacoba died May 12, 1727 at the age of 63.
G3: Maria Teetaert was born Dec 19, 1668 in Torhout. She was the 2nd child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe.
She married Guillelmus Petrus Crombee on Jul 12, 1691. They had 7 children, Guillielmus, Petronella, Joanna, Petrus, Joannes, Adrianus and Judoca.
Maria died in 1717 when she was only 49 years old. Her husband lived to be 97 and died Oct 23, 1749.
G3: Judoca Teetaert was born Sept 15, 1670 in Torhout. She was the 3rd child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe.
She married Jacobus Joannes Moyaert on Jun 17, 1696. They had 4 children, Josephus, a stillborn baby, Albertus and Amelgeris. Her husband died Jul 20, 1707, about 6 months before the youngest child was born. Judoca married Marinus VanBelle on May 14, 1711. Judoca died Aug 27, 1743 at the age of 72.
G3: Joannes Teetaert was born Feb 14, 1673 in Torhout. He was the 4th child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe. He died when he was only 5 years old on Nov 8, 1678.
G3: Martina Teetaert was born Jul 9, 1675 in Torhout. She was the 5th child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe. She married Guilhelmus Debusschere on Aug 29, 1710. They had 2 children, Petronella and Sarah.
G3: Jacobus Teetaert was born Apr 9, 1680 in Torhout. He was the 6th child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe. He married Cecilia Willems on Feb 6, 1702. They had 6 children and after Cecilia died, Jacobus married Regina Devacht and had another son. This line is followed in detail below under G3: Jacobus Teetaert 1680-1741 & Cecilia Willems & Regina Devacht & Catharina Scheerens.
G3: Theodorus Teetaert was born Jul 30, 1682 in Torhout. He was the 7th child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe.
He married Francisca Lauwaerde on Sept 2, 1708 and they had 8 children,
G4: Son: Joannes was born Feb 1, 1712 in Aartrijke, Belgium.
G4: Daughter: Joanna was born Sept 9, 1713 in Aartrijke, Belgium.
G4: Daughter: Jacoba was born Jul 21, 1715 in Aartrijke, Belgium.
G4: Son: Judocus was born Feb 2, 1718 in Aartrijke, Belgium.
G4: Son: Petrus was born Mar 8, 1721 in Aartrijke, Belgium.

After his wife died, Theodorus married Joanna Spyns and had 2 more children,
G4: Son: Jacobus was born in 1736 in Aartrijke, Belgium. He died Jan 2, 1754.
G4: Son: Joannes was born Aug 17, 1737 in Aartrijke, Belgium.
Theodorus died on Nov 18, 1741 at the age of 59.
Judocus Teetaert died on Dec 13, 1690 in Aartrijke at the age of 54. Judoca lived to be 85 and died in 1721.
G3: Jacobus Teetaert 1680-1741 & Cecilia Willems & Regina Devacht & Catharina Scheerens
Jacobus Teetaert was born Apr 9, 1680 in Torhout, Belgium. He was the 6th child of Judocus Teetaert & Judoca Ampe. Jacobus married Cecilia Willems on Feb 6, 1702 in Aartrijke. Cecilia was born Oct 6, 1680 to Nicolaus Willems & Anna Bouckhouts. They had 6 children.
G4: Joanna Teetaert was born Dec 14, 1702 in Aartrijke. She was the 1st child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. She never married and died Nov 4, 1781 at the age of 78.
G4: Judoca Teetaert was born May 15, 1706 in Aartrijke. She was the 2nd child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. We have no further details.
G4: Jacobus Teetaert was born May 22, 1708 in Aartrijke. He was the 3rd child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. He died when he was only 10 years old on Jan 1, 1719.
G4: Cecilia Teetaert was born Sept 1, 1709 in Torhout. She was the 4th child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. She married David Moeyaert in 1726 and they had 10 children, Petrus, Joannes, Jacobus, Franciscus, Petronella, Aldegonda, Petrus Josephus, Christina, David and Philippus. Cecilia died Feb 16, 1782 at the age of 72.
G4: Petronilla Joanna Veronica Teetaert was born Feb 24, 1712 in Aartrijke. She was the 5th child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. She married Guillaume Deroo on Jul 31, 1736. They had 8 children, Jacobus, Petrus, Joannes Baptiste, Veronica, Joannes, Guilielmus, Franciscus and David Cornelius. Petronilla died Nov 4, 1781 at the age of 69.
G4: Josephus Teetaert was born Feb 10, 1714 in Aartrijke. He was the 6th child of Jacobus Teetaert & Cecilia Willems. His mother died during childbirth. Josephus only lived 4 days and died on Feb 14, 1714.
Cecilia died on Feb 10, 1714 during childbirth with their youngest child. After her death, Jacobus married Regina Devacht on Apr 22, 1714. Regina was born Nov 17, 1690 in Ruddervoorde to Marinus Devacht & Petronella Degryse. Jacobus and Regina had one son.
G4: Corneille Teetaert was born Apr 29, 1717 in Aartrijke. He was the 7th child of Jacobus Teetaert & 1st child of Regina Devacht. He married Isabella Cools on Jan 31, 1769 and raised a large family. This family will be detailed below under

Regina Devacht Teetaert died on Mar 6, 1719 when she was only 28 years old. Her son Corneille was less than 2 years old at the time.
Jacobus was married for a third time on Apr 24, 1724 to Catharina Scheerens. Catharina was born Aug 31, 1692 to Roelandus Scheerens & Joanna Declerck and was 31 years old when they were married. Jacobus & Catharina had three more children.
G4: Helena Teetaert was born Jan 29, 1725 in Aartrijke. She was the 8th child of Jacobus Teetaert & 1st child of Catharina Scheerens. She died less than 3 months later on Apr 14, 1725.
G4: Catharina Teetaert was born Mar 21, 1726 in Aartrijke. She was the 9th child of Jacobus Teetaert & 2nd child of Catharina Scheerens. She never married and died on May 21, 1952 at only 26 years of age.
G4: Joannes Teetaert was born Jan 6, 1730 in Aartrijke. He was the 10th child of Jacobus Teetaert & 3rd child of Catharina Scheerens. He never married and died on May 9, 1952 at only 22 years of age.
Jacobus lived to be 61 years old and died on Dec 5, 1741. His third wife Catharina died Dec 7, 1749 when she was 57 years old.
G4: Corneille Teetaert 1717-1794 & Isabella Cools
Corneille Teetaert was born Apr 29, 1717 in Aartrijke. He was the 7th child of Jacobus Teetaert and the 1st child of his wife Regina Devacht.
Corneille Teetaert married Isabella Cools on Jan 31, 1769 in Zedelgem. Isabella was born Dec 10, 1750 to Jacobus Cools & Rosa Denys. They raised a large family with 13 children.
G5: Helena Teetaert was born May 19, 1770 in Zedelgem. She was the 1st child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. She married Alexander Jacobus Vermoote on Jan 8, 1795. They never had any children. Helena died Jul 5, 1806 at the age of 36 years old.
G5: Franciscus Teetaert was born Oct 4, 1771 in Zedelgem. He was the 2nd child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He married Maria Anna Allemeersch on Mar 20, 1798. Maria died just over 7 months later on Nov 8, 1798. Franciscus married Isabelle Calleeuw on Aug 27, 1799 in Oostkamp. They had three children. Franciscus died Mar 14, 1835 when he was 63 years old. His wife Isabelle had died earlier on Jul 4, 1813.
G6: Carolus Teetaert was born Jun 6, 1803 in Zedelgem. He married Maria Anna Theresia Vandaele on Nov 11, 1830. They never had children. Maria died on May 31, 1848.
Carolus married for a second time on Jul 24, 1850 to Emiliana Chirstina Vanderschaeghe. They had 2 children, Rosalia in 1850 and Maria Anna born in 1852.
Carolus died Mar 21, 1853 when he was only 49 years old.
G6: Joannes Teetaert was born Jun 26, 1805. He married Sophia Loose on Jul 29, 1833 and they had a son, Ludovicus Teetaert on Oct 12, 1833. Sophia died on Jan 30, 1848 when their son was only 15. Joannes was married for a second time on Jun 28, 1866 to Francisca Paepe.
G6: Petrus Jacobson Teetaert was born Aug 16, 1806 in Zedelgem. He married Isabella Holvoet on Nov 20, 1828. They had two sons, Laurentius Teetaert on Mar 17, 1831 and Augustinus Teetaert on Apr 18, 1840. Petrus died on Mar 1, 1843 at the age of 36.
Laurentius Teetaert was born on Mar 17, 1831. He married Theresia Moeyaert on Sept 7, 1860 and they had 1 son, Carolus on Mar 5, 1861.
Carolus married Victoria Declerck on Oct 7, 1895 and they had 3 daughters.
Augustinus Teetaert was born on Apr 18, 1840. He married Anna Verplancke on Jul 13, 1864 and they had 1 son, Medardus on Apr 26, 1870. Augustinus died on Mar 9, 1886 when he was only 45 years old.
G5: Joannes Teetaert was born Dec 12, 1772 in Zedelgem. He was the 3rd child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died 4 months later on Apr 8, 1773 in Zedelgem.
G5: Philippus Teetaert was born Feb 20, 1774 in Zedelgem. He was the 4th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died when he was only 2 years old on Mar 26, 1776.
G5: Augustus Teetaert was born Feb 6, 1776 in Zedelgem. He was the 5th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died 6 days later on Feb 15, 1776.
G5: Maria Ann Teetaert was born Jun 8, 1777 in Zedelgem. She was the 6th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. She died 2 months later on Jun 8, 1777.
G5: Maria Ann Teetaert was born Aug 31, 1778 in Zedelgem. She was the 7th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. She married Pieter Josephus Dumolein on Jul 3, 1829. They never had children. Maria Ann Teetaert died on Jun 24, 1854 when she was 75 years old.
G5: Carolus Teetaert was born Feb 27, 1781 in Zedelgem. He was the 8th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died one year later on Feb 18, 1782.
- G5: Josephus Teetaert was born Feb 22, 1783 in Zedelgem. He was the 9th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He married Joanna Meulemeester on Apr 23, 1806. They had 5 children. Josephus lived to be 75 years old and died Feb 24, 1858. The details of this line will be followed below under G5:Josephus Teetaert 1783-1858 & Joanna Meulemeester.
- G5: Ferdinandus Teetaert was born Sept 21, 1785 in Zedelgem. He was the 10th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He never married and died on Mar 18, 1817 at only 31 years old.
G5: Ambrosius Teetaert was born Aug 18, 1787 in Zedelgem. He was the 11th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died the next day on Aug 19, 1787.
G5: Bernardus Teetaert was born Aug 18, 1787 in Zedelgem. He was the 12th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. He died two weeks later on Sept 1, 1787.
G5: Petronille Teetaert was born Oct 2, 1790 in Zedelgem. She was the 13th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools. She married Jacques Symoens on Feb 13, 1816. They never had children and Jacques passed away in 1821. Petronille was married for the second time on Feb 1, 1822 to Ludovicus Willem. They had 2 children, Carolus Willem in 1823 and Josephus Willem in 1824. Ludovicus died on Mar 3, 1834 and Petronille was married for a third time on Aug 30, 1839 to Joannes Cammels. Petronille lived to be 83 years old and died Jul 1, 1874.
G5: Josephus Teetaert 1783-1858 & Joanna Meulemeester
Josephus Teetaert was born Feb 22, 1783 in Zedelgem. He was the 9th child of Corneille Teetaert & Isabella Cools.
He married Joanna Meulemeester on Apr 23, 1806. Joanna was born Mar 20, 1785 to Joannes Constantinus Meulemeester & Constantia Van Dycke.
They had 5 children. Josephus lived to be 75 years old and died Feb 24, 1858. Joanna was only 63 when she died on Jan 8, 1849.
G6: Joannes Teetaert was born Apr 11,1809. He was the 1st child of Josephus Teetaert & Joanna Meulemeester. He married Barbara Grijmonpre on Jun 15, 1848. They never had children. Joannes died Dec 5, 1865.
G6: Ludovicus Teetaert was born Jun 9, 1816. He was the 2nd child of Josephus Teetaert & Joanna Meulemeester. He married Amelia Vancolen on Oct 3, 1854. They never had children. Ludovicus died Jul 24, 1884 when he was 68 years old.
G6: Karel Joseph Teetaert was born Oct 19, 1818. He was the 3rd child of Josephus Teetaert & Joanna Meulemeester. He married Anna Willem on Jun 27, 1843. They had 7 children. His line is followed below under

G6: Bernardus Teetaert was born Sept 6, 1820. He was the 4th child of Josephus Teetaert & Joanna Meulemeester. He married Veronica Vandenbon on May 1, 1847.They had 3 sons, Ludovicus (Louis) born Apr 6, 1848; Bernardus born Nov 20, 1853 and Desiderius born Apr 14, 1856. Bernardus Snr lived to be 72 years old and died Dec 9, 1892 I Torhout.
G7: Ludovicus (Louis) Teetaert was born Apr 6, 1848. He married Melania Vermout and they had a daughter Idalia Maria Teetaert on Feb 26, 1887 in Brugge. Louis died Apr 28, 1931 at the age of 83.
G7: Bernardus Teetaert Jr was born Nov 20, 1853. He married Rosalia Bonte on Sept 28, 1883. We have no other info.
G7: Desiderius Teetaert was born Apr 14, 1856. He married Clementia Pattyn on May 23, 1883. They had 10 children.
G6: Laurentius Teetaert was born Dec 5, 1823. He was the 5th child of Josephus Teetaert & Joanna Meulemeester. He married Carolina Vandewiele on Nov 23, 1849 in Zedelgem. They had 3 children, 1 son and 2 daughters.
G7: Emiliana Teetaert was born Feb 15, 1851. She married Carolus Ludovicus Vanacker on Sept 7, 1871. They had one daughter, Maria Theresia Vanacker on Apr 2, 1872. Carolus died on Dec 2, 1883 leaving Emiliana to raise their child on her own.
Emiliana was married for the second time to Romanus Vandaele on Oct 20, 1886. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters together. Emiliana lived to be 77 and died Aug 7, 1928. Romanus was also 77 when he died on Oct 26, 1924.
G8: Ida Vandaele was born Sept 24, 1887. She married Joannes Francisus Monteyne in 1914 and they had 5 children, Maria, Carolus, Hubert, Mauritius & Leonie. Ida passed away on May 21, 1960 in Varsenare.
G8: Karel (Charles) Vandaele was born Jan 13, 1889. He married Valeria Hollevoet in 1922 and they had 3 children, Juliette, Maria & Maurits.
