Charles Vandaele familyCharles Vandaele was born on April 28, 1889, in Ruddervoorde, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, to Marie-Louise (Ludovica) Dewitte, age 36, and Petrus Vandaele, age 38.

Charles came from a family of 8 children and lost his father when he was only 9 years old. In 1910, when he was 21, he and his younger brother Jules decided to emigrate to Canada and came to Deloraine, Manitoba. Later, his brother Gustaf joined them in Deloraine.

Charles worked for a number of farmers learning the ways of farming in Canada and also learned to speak English.

He married Marie Aneca in Deloraine, Manitoba, on January 7, 1914, when he was 24 years old.

Marie was also born in Belgium and had come to Canada with her parents as a small girl.

Charles & Marie first started farming at Dand, later moving to south  of Medora and finally to Waskada.

In 1933 they moved to Foxwarren, Manitoba to escape the drought and the grasshoppers, returning in 1937 to their farm at Waskada.They sold this farm to their daughter when she got married and bought another farm south of Medora. Their -son Remi would take it over when Charles & Marie moved to Deloraine.

They had four children during their marriage.

Augusta was born on March 7, 1914, in Medora, Manitoba.

  • G9: Harry Vandaele 1915-1998 & Judith Teetaert

Harry was born on November 4, 1915, in Dand, Manitoba.

  • G9: Maurice Vandaele 1916-2008 & Beatrice Bertha Plaisier & Mary Mitchel

Maurice was born on December 5, 1916, in Dand, Manitoba.

  • G9: Remi Joseph Vandaele 1920-1983 & Angela Teetaert

Remi Joseph was born on August 10, 1920, in Medora, Manitoba.

Marie passed away on October 23, 1964, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 66. They had been married 50 years. Charles died on February 27, 1966, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 76.

Augusta Vandaele (G9) 1914-1992 & William Vanderhave

Augusta VandaeleAugusta Vandaele was born on March 7, 1914, in Medora, Manitoba, to Marie Aneca, age 15, and Charles Vandaele, age 24. She married William Vanderhave on March 29, 1932, in Melita, Manitoba.

Bill had immigrated to Canada in 1927 and worked as a farm labourer in Saskatchewan. In 1929, he came to Manitoba and worked on farms in the Melita and Waskada area.

Bill & Augusta farmed at Birtle, Foxwarren and Coulter before purchasing their own farm west of Deloraine. They stayed on the farm until they retired to Deloraine in Jan 1964. 

They had two children during their marriage, Nellie was born on July 4, 1934 and Irene was born on December 16, 1938.

Bill died on March 7, 1992, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 89. Augusta died on June 28, 1992, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 78.

Nellie Vanderhave G10) 1934 & Dennis Crowe

Nellie Vanderhave was boNellie and Dennis Crowern on July 4, 1934, in Foxwarren, Manitoba, to Augusta Vandaele, age 20, and William Vanderhave, age 31. She married Dennis Crowe in Deloraine, Manitoba, on April 21, 1954, when she was 19 years old.

Dennis was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He worked in Ontario for a year and then went west, working for Maurice Vandaele & Lawrence Teetaert.

They started farming after they were married in the Otter district and in 1992, they built a new house in Deloraine and retired there.

They had three children during their marriage.

  • G10: Kathlene Anne (Kathy) Crowe was born on March 14, 1955. She married Rocky Gibson on July 28, 1979, in Deloraine, Manitoba. That marriage ended in divorce. Kathy then married Derner Chadwell on July 19, 1986. Kathy was a teacher and also organized bus tours.

  • G10: Valerie Lynn Crowe was born on February 18, 1958. Valerie Crowe married Rick Perriman in Deloraine, Manitoba, on October 2, 1976, when she was 18 years old. Rick grew up in Ontario and came to Manitoba to work for Remi Mosset. Rick & Val farm west of Deloraine. Rick & Val were both active in 4-H. They still farm west of Deloraine. They have three children, Jeremy was born on March 12, 1977; Heather was born on May 7, 1981 and Elizabeth was born on December 16, 1984.

  • G10: Kenneth William (Ken) Crowe was born on September 27, 1961. He married Patricia Poast on January 26, 1991, when he was 29 years old. They had two children Colton William born on September 22, 1989 and Conner Lee was born on May 27, 1994. Ken was a very good hockey player when he was growing up. He played Goalie for Deloraine, Weyburn, Portage la Prairie and Brandon.

Nellie & Dennis were both very community minded. Dennis was on the Turtle Mountain Conservation Board for 20 years, Deloraine Town Council for 3 years and was Reeve of Winchester Municipality from 1995 to 1998.

Nellie was on the local fair board for 25 years, was an active Health Auxiliary member and also belonged to the Horticultural society.

Dennis passed away on April 20, 2020, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 89. They had been married 65 years.

Nellie continues to live in Deloraine.

Irene Vanderhave (G10) 1938-1986 Bill Dailey

Irene and Bill Dailey Irene Vanderhave was born on December 16, 1938, in Foxwarren, Manitoba, to Augusta Vandaele, age 24, and William Vanderhave, age 35. Irene Vanderhave married Bill Dailey on June 3, 1965, when she was 26 years old.They had one son, Patrick William Dailey was born on December 2, 1967, in Deloraine, Manitoba. Patrick never married and he died on November 8, 2002, in Melita, Manitoba, at the age of 34.

Irene died on February 23, 1986, in Deloraine, Manitoba, when she was 47 years old. Bill died Jan 8, 2021.

Harry Vandaele (G9) 1915-1998 & Judith Teetaert

Harry and Judith VandaeleHarry Vandaele was born on November 4, 1915, in Dand, Manitoba, to Marie Aneca, age 17, and Charles Vandaele, age 26. He married Judith Teetaert in Deloraine, Manitoba, on October 15, 1940, when he was 24 years old.

After the wedding, they started farming in the Otter district and then in the summer of 1941, they bought a farm east of Medora and moved there in Jan 1942. They remained on that farm until 1972. They built a new house on the farm and in 1975, they moved it to Deloraine and retired.

They purchased a morothome and travelled across western Canada and ventured south to Arizona and Texas. In 1992, Harry suffered a stroke and spent a long time in the hospital.

They had two children during their marriage, Glenn Wayne was born on March 8, 1943 and Vernon Lyle was born on March 9, 1953.

Harry died on November 18, 1998, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 83. Judith died on October 14, 2012, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 92.

Glenn Wayne Vandaele (G10) 1943-2000 & Lorraine Vanbeselaere

Glenn VandaeleGlenn Wayne Vandaele was born on March 8, 1943, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Judith Teetaert, age 22, and Harry Vandaele, age 27.

He married Lorraine Vanbeselaere in Melita, Manitoba, on July 10, 1965, when he was 22 years old. They started farming south east of Medora and farmed for 25 years before retiring to Deloraine.

They had two children during their marriage, Wendy Jean was born on August 25, 1967 and Colleen was born on December 26, 1968.

After years of battling various health issues, Glenn died on July 20, 2000, in his hometown at the age of 57.

Vernon Lyle Vandaele (G10) 1953 & Sharon Mossett

Vern Vandaele Vernon Lyle Vandaele was born on March 9, 1953, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Judith Teetaert, age 32, and Harry Vandaele, age 37.He married Sharon Mossett in Deloraine, Manitoba, on November 10, 1972, when he was 19 years old. They started farming together just east of Medora.

In 1979, Vern started growing pedigreed seed that grew into VanDaele Seeds in 1988

They have four children, twins Mark & Calvin born on September 22, 1973; Chad born on May 18, 1980 and Bobby born on July 3, 1983.

Maurice Vandaele (G9) 1916-2008 & Beatrice Bertha Plaisier & Mary Mitchel

Maurice VandaeleMaurice (Dusty) Vandaele was born on December 5, 1916, in Dand, Manitoba, to Marie Aneca, age 18, and Charles Vandaele, age 27. He married Beatrice Bertha Plaisier in Oak Lake, Manitoba, on September 26, 1939, when he was 22 years old.

They had two children, Ilene Marie born on April 23, 1943 and Floyd born on January 20, 1956.

In 1960, he started Dust Daele Angus Farms with his herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. A group of young females were purchased in Alberta and shipped to Virden by train. He bought his first bull from Maryland, USA and had it shipped to Kansas City where Dusty picked it up. He went on to buy and sell cattle all over the world and even sold a bull to Australia.

Dusty also showed his cattle and won many awards. One of the highlights was winning the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor at the Toronto Royal Fair in 1977.

Beatrice passed away on February 20, 1968, in Deloraine, Manitoba, at the age of 51. They had been married 28 years.

Dusty married Mary Mitchel on May 31, 1980, when he was 63 years old.

Dusty died on September 3, 2008, in Killarney, Manitoba, when he was 91 years old.

Ilene Marie Vandaele (G10) 1943-2000 & Bill Dekeyser

Ilene Marie Vandaele was born on April 23, 1943, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Beatrice Bertha Plaisier, age 26, and Maurice Vandaele, age 26.

She married Bill Dekeyser on April 26, 1961, when she was 18 years old. They had five children, Tony was born on March 30, 1962; Patsy was born on April 16, 1963; Jackie was born on November 25, 1964; Penny Ann was born on January 8, 1968 and Marcie Elaine was born on November 1, 1972.

Ilene passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease on July 14, 2000, in her hometown at the age of 57.

Floyd Vandaele (G10) 1956-1983 & Sylvia (Cindy) Hunter

Floyde VandaeleFloyd Vandaele was born on January 20, 1956, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Beatrice Bertha Plaisier, age 39, and Maurice Vandaele, age 39. He married Sylvia (Cindy) Hunter in May 1982 when he was 26 years old.

Floyd died in a farming accident on August 2, 1983, in Medora, Manitoba, when he was 27 years old. Cindy was pregnant at the time and their son Charles Andrew Vandaele was born on January 17, 1984.

Cindy passed away on March 20, 2017, in Arcola, Saskatchewan, at the age of 56.

Remi Joseph Vandaele (G9) 1920-1983 & Angela Teetaert

Remi and Isa Vandaele Remi Joseph Vandaele was born on August 10, 1920, in Medora, Manitoba. He was the youngest child of Charles Vandaele and Marie Aneca. He married Angela (Isa)  Teetaert on Jan 27, 1949. 

They had two children, a son Ronald Lloyd Vandaele born May 13, 1950 and a daughter Judith Louise Vandaele born on June 26, 1952.

Remi operated a mixed farm his whole life. He was very active in the Manitoba Pool and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed curling and playing cards.

They remained on the farm until 1983 when they decided to build a new house in Deloraine where they would retire.  Remi became ill and died before the house was finished. Remi died on Aug 9, 1983 in Deloraine, Manitoba one day before his 63rd birthday. Isa lived in the new house for many years. She moved into the lodge in 2016 and Isa died April 22, 2017 in Deloraine at the age of 91 years.

Ronald Lloyd Vandaele (G10) 1950

Ronald Lloyd Vandaele was born on May 13, 1950, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Angela (Isa) Teetaert, age 24, and Remi Joseph Vandaele, age 29.

Ron never married and lives in the town of Deloraine.

Judith Louise Vandaele (G10) 1952 & Dan Shiels

Judy Vandaele ShielsJudith Louise Vandaele was born on June 26, 1952, in Deloraine, Manitoba, to Angela (Isa) Teetaert, age 26, and Remi Joseph Vandaele, age 31. She married Daniel Philip Shiels in Deloraine, Manitoba, on February 17, 1973, when she was 20 years old.

They have two children, a daughter Jennifer Dawn was born on April 29, 1974, in Gillam, Manitoba and a daughter Tracy Nicole was born on September 18, 1975, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jenn works in the Billing Department at Gardewine and Tracy is a manager at Continental Travel.

Dan worked for Manitoba Hydro and they lived in Gillam, Sundance and Winnipeg. Following retirement, Dan started a consulting company and they travelled together all across the world. Most notable was the 5 years they lived in Saudi Arabia and have visited 61 countries around the world.

In 2018, they purchased a winter home in Texas and truly enjoyed their time there. They are now living in Winnipeg.
