Preamble
This document will provide details on the Phillips family from 1708 to date. The layout is based on different generations with G1 being the first generation, G2 being their descendant and G3 being the following descendants.
Thomas Phillips (1708) is the first generation recorded here in order to keep the generations the same across other families that we are tracking. We do know that Thomas’ father was John Phillips, born in 1681 and his grand parents were Gwewared Phillips 1659-1690 and Margaret George 1660-1690. We have no other details on these earlier generations.
Our story starts in Pembrokeshire in a small visit known as Navern, about 8 miles southwest of Cardigan and half way between Cardigan and Fishgard. Many of the families remained in Pembrokeshire while others moved to other counties such as Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire, Monmouthshire, Cardiganshire, Gloucestershire, Linconshire, Montgomeryshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. A number of descendants also emigrated abroad to Australia, Canada, New Zealand the United States. The USA descendants were spread across the country in 11 states from New York to California.
There are many occupations spread across the descendants and are listed where available including farmer, shoemaker, coal miner, mason, stonemason, school teacher, grocer assistant, hewer, Post Office Manager and house builder.
We have included a number of transcripts from the census as well as birth certificates and marriage certificates where available. We have also included photos in this forst draft and will be adding more as they become available.
This document was assembled by Dan Shiels. Where relatives have completed their DNA Testing and therefore have proven their roots, (DNA) is included in the index and their associated titles. There are currently 5 family members with registered DNA results.
